A new satellite casino will open "this summer" in Ayia Napa, Cyprus, which is permitted under a gaming license awarded to consortiums including Melco International Development Ltd. This follows a press statement issued on April 4 by a Hong Kong-listed casino investor.

"Cyprus Casino Ayia Napa," known as C2 Ayia Napa, will offer an initial 35 jobs, according to the announcement.

In June 2017, the Republic of Cyprus, which controls the southern part of the Mediterranean resort, granted a 30-year casino license to a consortium of integrated casino resorts Cyprus Limited, which partners Melco International. The license allows owners to build up to four satellite casinos in addition to the main property known as the dream city Mediterranean.

Construction for the latter on a 37-hectare (91.4 acre) site in Limasol, off Cyprus' south coast, is set to begin this month and is expected to be completed "within 2021," Melco International said in a previous announcement.

In June 2018, a temporary facility named promoter C2 Limasol was launched ahead of the main limasol resort. In December of that year, the consortium opened two satellite casinos at Larnaca International Airport near the port city of Larnaca, on the southern coast of Cyprus and the capital Nicosia.

The fourth satellite casino promoted by the consortium will be held in Paphos.

Currently, Melco International employs "more than 800 employees" across its Cypriot gaming venues, with the majority of its workforce local, according to a statement from the company on April 4.
